I choose to study nature by responding to it, rather than representing. I struggle to bring air to my paintings. When a work is complete it will communicate a sensation, rather than an idea.
Carolyn Hepler-Smith was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She lived in there until moving to Savannah, Georgia in the fall of 2009. She is currently pursing a BFA in Painting and Sculpture at the Savannah College of Art and Design. This fall quarter’s classes include Advanced Painting, Installation Sculpture, and Treasures of Provence.
